This week we speak with the fabulous Akin Onal founder of MORI.
MORI grew from a passion to create the world’s softest baby essentials, from sustainable sources. Originally from Turkey, I moved to London after travelling and working in the US, Africa and the Middle East. My background is in finance and consulting, but as a devout Uncle I noticed that there was a gap in the market for an innovative and online (originally) baby brand that has the highest quality and was beautiful enough to gift.
AKIN'S TIPS ON STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS:
- Surround yourself with smart people: Find advisors who genuinely believe in what you do and share your passion for it too. Hire smart people too - they will guide your business and push it to the top!
- Always test and keep testing: Do this at a rapid pace, as there is so much to learn from the outcomes of those tests. Also make sure you measure everything you test, and base your decisions on the the examples your learn. Don’t invest your time, money or resources unless you have tested.
- Focus: Keep the main importance and goal of your business in mind. Expanding a product collection could feel like a quick win, but spreading yourself too thin could be terminal for a new business.
AKIN'S BEST TRAVEL TIP:
Travelling is a huge part of my life, and I’m often travelling either due to work or my personal life. My travel hacks would be: eye masks, ear plugs and audio books.
