MEET THE FINDER: Dan von Obelitz of Jorgobé interview
Driven by curiosity and a strong passion for creating effective skin care products for both men and women searching for cleaner and more beautiful skin – and with the dream of combining the best natural and active ingredients Jorgobé Skincare – Copenhagen was launched. Their products were made to stand out from the rest, be presented in a simple yet exclusive, Nordic packaging and be priced at a level affordable for everyone.
Tell us about your brand and how you came about?
D: Our first product launched was The Original Black Peel Off Mask, which was sold through an e-commerce platform. The original idea was to just test the market potential, but within a few months, the entire production of 10,000 units was sold. Having received several awards, among others at Grooming Awards, as well as recommendations in ELLE and other international fashion and beauty magazines, we were approached by a growing number of retailers, and already in 2012, our Jorgobé The Original Black Peel Off Mask was one of the best-selling face masks in Scandinavia.
Right from the beginning, our desire was to control every detail concerning retailers, branding, design, packaging and most importantly product development. Our products were to stand out from the rest, be presented in a simple yet exclusive, Nordic packaging and be priced at a level affordable for everyone. Being an independent brand means that Jorgobé is not controlled by a group of shareholders exclusively set on making money. Therefore, we fully control the ingredients added to our products, place of production, price and who we are willing to sell our products too.
What’s your biggest challenge as a brand?
D: Making sure we keep the minimalistic and simple aesthetics while also pursuing the newest trends. In order to stay relevant on the market, a skin care brand has to be able to look slightly into the future since it takes quite long to develop a new product when you do it the old-fashioned way.
Tell us your favourite quote, mantra or best piece of advice
“Make it simple, but significant.”
Tell us your proudest moment as a business
D: In 2016 we won our first award in the Danish Beauty Award ceremony. It’s a big event here in Denmark and we were so lucky to actually win two awards this day! This event competes with when we won the “gazelle” award in 2018, which is an exclusive award for the fastest growing Danish companies.
What is your favourite product on A LITTLE FIND?
D: I’m quite fond of the elegant and simple look of French Girl.
What's your best beauty or life hack?
D: Run in the morning! Even a short run to start off the day adds energy and you really appear more fresh throughout the day.
What time does your day start & how do you start it?
D: My 1 year old daughter usually wakes me up at 6 am.
Who is your hero?
D: It’s hard to choose one hero. However, I have always felt inspired by the great Danish architects and furniture designers such as Finn Juhl and Arne Jacobsen. The timeless design and incredible sense for details.
Where are you off to on holiday this year?
D: My family and I have been to Lucca, a small town in Tuscany, Italy.
