Skin Laundry founder Yen Reis is one of us - a woman who has struggled with her fair share of skin issues. Whilst living in Asia, she found a safe and accessible laser and light therapy that improved the health of her skin. Though when Yen moved to Los Angeles, she couldn’t find a similar treatment that was both affordable and convenient - which wasn't so nice for Yen at the time but turned out to be great for us in the long run - because as her skin started to regress, she went out on her own and met with medical professionals and laser experts, and armed with the belief that healthy skin starts with clean skin... really deep down clean skin, in 2013 in the sunny Californian City of Santa Monica, Skin Laundry was born.
Fast forward a few years and Skin Laundry has locations in California, New York, Arizona, Hong Kong, and London, and we are pleased to announce the travel-size friendly products are available on A LITTLE FIND.
MEET YEN REISALF: Where did the idea for Skin Laundry come from?
YR: I had the idea soon after I moved to LA and recognized there was a gap in the beauty market for mild Laser & Light Facials at an affordable price point. I wanted to make laser and light facials accessible to the market, with no downtime required. I launched Skin Laundry in May 2013 and our first location was in Santa Monica, California.ALF: What was your mission when you started Skin Laundry?
YR: My mission was to take world-class Laser & Light therapy out of the doctor’s office and into Skin Laundry clinics – where it’s fast, affordable and incredibly effective.ALF: What are the key values of the Brand?
YR: Essentially, we want to help people achieve a cleaner, clearer, brighter, tighter and glowing skin! And we do this through both our Laser & Light Treatment and incredible Wash & Wear product line.ALF: What has been your biggest high since launching the brand?
YR: Having my customers see such dramatic change in their skin and the appreciation they have for the business and brand.
ALF: Have there been any low moments since starting Skin Laundry, and what lessons have you learnt from them?
'Raising money is never fun! Particularly having to convince people to invest in what seems like your own dream and vision'.
YR: Raising money is never fun! Particularly having to convince people to invest in what seems like your own dream and vision that they don’t necessarily believe in...ALF: Would you do anything differently?
YR: No. It’s been an unforgettable journey of both highs and lows, but a very rewarding experience.ALF: What would have been your Plan B?
YR: To be a founder of another business that really makes a positive impact on the lives of its customers.ALF: What was your first ever business idea?
YR: To open a Vietnamese restaurant that serves the best Vietnamese food!
AFL: When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
'On long-haul flights, it’s always a good idea to pack a hydrating sheet mask as the cabin air really de-hydrates your skin, and I also recommend taking a good book'!
YR: I honestly did not know. I worked in so many jobs that I felt capable of doing anything I needed, in order to make a living.
ALF: What is your favourite country or city you have visited, and why?
YR: Sydney… For the people, the harbour, the beaches, the food and the lifestyle. It’s where I grew up, so it’s where I feel most at home.ALF: Do you have any travel tips you can share with our readers?
YR: On long-haul flights, it’s always a good idea to pack a hydrating sheet mask as the cabin air really de-hydrates your skin. I always take a Skin Laundry Hydrating Radiance Sheet Mask in my hand luggage as it’s packed with amino acids, minerals and plant extracts to improve hydration and brighten your skin. I also recommend taking a good book! One of my favourites is Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki And His Years Of Pilgrimage by Haruki Murakami. It’s one I go back to all the time. It’s about going through life without confronting the teenage years of loss. The character discovers almost too late the importance of standing up for oneself.ALF: What product would you recommend for a trip?
ALF: What is a beauty product that you can’t live without?
YR: I believe healthy skin starts with clean skin, so a great cleanser is a must.ALF: What is your life motto?
YR: Try to be a good person and have integrity in all that you do.ALF: Can you tell me what you love about yourself?
YR: My positive energy :)ALF: How do you de-stress and recharge?
YR: I like to swim, do yoga and spend time with my boys (husband included)!
ALF: What keeps you inspired?
YR: Knowing that I am lucky enough to have this opportunity and able to wake up every day doing what I love.ALF: Who would be your ideal dinner party guest and why?
YR: Ellen DeGeneres – She's funny, smart and a great businesswoman. (We agree)!ALF: What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
YR: To always have strong principals.
